
Dr. Joel Blankson Elected Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology
Dr. Joel Blankson, professor of medicine and molecular and comparative pathology, has been elected a 2023 fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, an honorific leadership group and think tank within the American Society of Microbiology. Election to the academy is based on a person’s “record of scientific achievement and original contributions that have advanced microbiology.”
Blankson’s areas of expertise include HIV pathogenesis and infectious disease, including the natural control of HIV-1 infection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also has increased understanding of the immune system’s response to SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes the disease.
