Dr. Nitish Thakor wins Misha Mahowald Prize

Dr. Nitish Thakor, Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurology, has been awarded the 2022 Misha Mahowald Prize for his work leading the Neuromorphic e-Dermis Team. The Misha Mahowald Prize recognizes outstanding research in neuromorphic engineering, worldwide, and is named for the late Misha Mahowald, one of the most influential pioneers of the field of neuromorphic engineering.

Dr. Thakor’s team invented a multilayered, artificial electronic dermis (e-dermis) to restore complex tactile perceptions of pressure and pain to prosthesis users and provide robotic systems with intelligent, neurally-inspired representations of high-dimensional tactile information using neuromorphic representations of touch.
