
Dr. Oluwakemi Badaki recieves grant for research on sepsis in children
Dr. Oluwakemi Badaki, M.D., assistant professor of pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine, received a significant grant from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness & Response at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant will fund research to identify risks of sepsis among children by using novel biomarkers and to improve outcomes for patients who do become septic.
Dr. Badaki will use this grant for research to develop a blood test to rapidly identify children in the emeregency department with early signs of severe illness from infection. Badaki previously published research on the use of MDW as a screening tool for sepsis and SARS-CoV-2 and influenza.
