The President’s Ten for One strategic framework sets out ten new goals for Johns Hopkins University through 2030 under four organizing pillars: One University, Individual and Collective Excellence, Knowledge and Impact, and Community Partnership and Economic Opportunity for Baltimore and the other communities of which we are a part. Each month we will highlight a goal and share some of the ways that we can advance our professional growth related to the university’s strategic mission.

Goal #6: Create the preeminent undergraduate experience in a research-intensive university setting by nurturing a learning environment that allows students to connect with our leading faculty and research programs; provides unrivaled mentorship, immersive experiences, and life design; and creates a culture of engagement, community, and belonging that ensures our students can thrive individually and collectively.

Building on the achievements of the last decade, we are forging a truly distinctive, world-class undergraduate experience. To do so, we will:
1. Continue to implement with vigor and determination the most ambitious reform of our undergraduate curriculum in generations.
2. Cultivate a distinctive culture of connections and belonging across the undergraduate experience.
3. Consider broadening access to our undergraduate community through an increase in the size of entering classes.

The Center for Teaching Excellence and Innovation is pleased to offer Best Practices in University Teaching (BPUT): a multi-day workshop for Johns Hopkins faculty. The workshop will present pedagogical best practices used at Johns Hopkins and peer institutions. The next session will be held in Bloomberg 478 at the Homewood campus on Wednesday, January 8th and Thursday, January 9th, 2025. Register using the link below.

Leadership Competency #6: Acting Strategically

Short Separator

A leader who meets this competency acts as a catalyst for organizational change by building a shared vision with others which ensures alignment of the organization’s vision, strategic plan, mission, and values in light of internal and external trends. They influence others to translate vision into action. They identify and articulate the strategic goals and direction of the organization, division, or group with support for organizational change. They align day to day activities around broader organizational goals and objectives. This leader prioritizes resources based on the strategic objectives of the organization. They recognize and reward staff based on how their actions support the broader needs of the organization.

JHU Talent Management is offering a course for faculty called The Art of Negotiation, held October 17, 2024, in which participants will review and discuss approaches and strategies to help negotiate successfully, while minimizing negative conflict and keeping relationships intact.
