The President’s Ten for One strategic framework sets out ten new goals for Johns Hopkins University through 2030 under four organizing pillars: One University, Individual and Collective Excellence, Knowledge and Impact, and Community Partnership and Economic Opportunity for Baltimore and the other communities of which we are a part. Each month we will highlight a goal and share some of the ways that we can advance our professional growth related to the university’s strategic mission.
Goal #1: Invigorate the sense of community and shared on-campus experience that are the essence of our university.
This Goal includes creating welcoming spaces that are accessible to everyone. Removing barriers to individuals with disabilities is a key objective within this goal. The Hopkins Universal Design for Learning (HUDL) is a suite of resources for faculty to implement Universal Design Principles. Resources include an article entitled “‘Plus-One’ Thinking: A Framework for Inclusive Teaching“

JHU Talent Management has identified 6 Leadership Skill Domains that we consider essential for effective leaders. Each month we will highlight one domain, what success looks like, and opportunities to grow our skills in that domain.
Leadership Competency #1: Establishing Relationships
A leader who meets this competency builds effective networks, working relationships, and alliances with a broad range of stakeholders in order to collaborate effectively within divisions and across boundaries. They can relate to all kinds of people regardless of backgrounds, and find topics and common interests that they can use to build rapport with others.
JHU’s Talent Management offers several courses that help you maximize your ability to establish relationships and be productive. Here are several with enrollment this spring:
* Workplace Politics: How to Survive and Thrive
* The Communication Challenge: Disarming Difficult People
* Relationship Awareness Theory: The Key to Better Communication and More Productive Conflict
