Describe your primary scholarship or research, and tell us what is most exciting about your current project.
I am an international economist, and my primary research is on the roles of international trade and transportation costs in explaining cross-country income differences. I teach international economics courses on the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, and China) countries, International Trade and Rich Countries, Poor Countries, which analyzes various explanations for cross-country income differences. The most exciting aspects of the courses that I teach are their relevance to the real world, especially with current events like the China-U.S. trade war and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

It is very important for the instructor to be receptive to the different viewpoints of students. This makes the students feel comfortable in voicing their opinions and creates a more effective learning environment.
What do you like to do outside of work?
I am an avid traveler and foodie. I like to visit different places of the world and try out different cuisines. My latest trip last summer was to Germany and Austria.
